The
Chesapeake Bay from Maryland to the Virginia Capes,
the rivers and estuaries that feed it as well as the
adjacent offshore waters of Maryland, Virginia and
North Carolina make up one of the most spectacular
fisheries in the world! Those who have had the
opportunity to fish this special place feel
fortunate.
The
Chesapeake Bay has one of the largest fish
attracting devices in the world, the Chesapeake Bay
Bridge Tunnel Complex. Add to that the offshore
towers and ship wrecks, near by Inlets, the
relatively short run to the Gulf Stream and you
quickly realize why the Mid-Atlantic coast is
considered one of the best places in the world to
fish!
This site is designed to

July! The Spadefish are here!
|
|
|
|
Spadefish are in our waters June
through September. They can be found anywhere there
is structure from the Atlantic wrecks to the middle
bay. Some of the best areas are the Cell, CBBT,
Plantation Light, York Spit Light, the bouys at the
mouth of the bay, the Chesapeake Light Tower, Tower
Reef, and any wreck you can find. The Santore, Gulf
Hustler, and Anglo-African are some good wrecks
to catch spadefish from. The 4A bouy at
the mouth of the bay is the most popular, though any
bouy in the area can hold spadefish. The easiest
times to catch spadefish are during low current and
calm seas when the fish can often be seen finning on
the surface. If you don't move too fast, you can
drift effectively, but most often you need to
anchor.

July
30, 2010
Flounder fishing has been good in
the Buoy 42/Cell area. Some large flounder were falling to live
bait fished along the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in the deeper
areas. Back River Reef was also producing some nice flatfish.
Cobia anglers just keep catching. Sight-casters were working the Baltimore
Channel and along the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Chummers
caught fish at York Spit, the Inner Middle Grounds, Bluefish
Rock, and near Buoy 18.
Spanish mackerel were available along the coast and throughout the lower
Bay. The waters from Back River Reef to York Spit have been
productive lately. Small bluefish were everywhere, which made
the Spanish a challenge.
Larger croaker were available in the York River near the Coleman Bridge
and near the Cell. Some nice sheepshead were being caught along
the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, and a few were coming from
Back River Reef. Spadefish were also caught at the Chesapeake
Bay Bridge Tunnel.
Amberjack were thick at the Southern Towers. There were also some at the
Chesapeake Light Tower and nearby wrecks.
Offshore anglers were hampered by windy weather. When they got out, there
were good catches of dolphin and billfish. A few bluefin were
still being caught on the inshore hills along with some nice
dolphin and king mackerel.

Quick Guide To Choosing The Right Charter Service
|
| |
|
 |
Private
charter boats, carry up to 6 anglers for one set fee
on a custom fishing trip either inshore or off. These boats do
mostly trolling, however they do bottom fishing also. Trolling
is where the boat puts out up to 7 lines at varying depths &
lengths and is moving the whole time dragging baits. On a
offshore trip you can catch such species as Blue Marlin, Blue
Fin & Yellow Fin Tuna, Wahoo, Dolphin, King Mackerel, Blue Fish,
Spanish Mackerel. While bottom fishing you can catch Stripers,
Croaker, Spot, Flounder, Trout, Drum, Cobia, Amberjack, Sharks
and Spadefish.
Guides services, specialize in custom trips and
cater to small groups, usually 1 to 3 anglers. This type of
chartering is up close and personal, lots of one on one
instruction from your guide. They offer a hands on experience,
from rod handling to bait rigging. Most guide trips are inshore
but some guides offer offshore trip as well. Guides offer
additional fishing techniques, like saltwater fly-fishing.
Head boats, sometime called party boats, take
30 to 60 fishermen on a bottom or drift fishing trip lasting
from a half day to whole day. Anglers pay on a per-angler bases,
and the boat usually has room for walk ups. The trip includes
bait, tackle, someone to gaff and take your fish off, and great
help when lines break or get tangled.
